Armory Ace Attack 2024

A Sydney Disc Golf Club Special Event

The Armory Ace Attack returned with 50% more holes than last time the event was held in 2022. The rules were relatively simple:

  • Each player is limited to 3 discs (of their choice) for the round and get 2 throws on each hole.
  • 27 holes ranging in length from 21 to 43 metres.
  • Score as many aces as possible from 54 throws.
  • Score 5 points for ace, 2 for chain out, 1 for hitting any other part of the basket and 1 bonus point for scoring points with both throws on a hole.
  • There are 3 divisions: males with rating over 860, males with rating 860 or less and females.
  • The winner will be the player who scores the most points.

34 players teed off in turn, in groups of 5 (with one group of 4). Conditions were breezy with light intermittent showers, making it difficult for players to score.

In the M1 division (males over 860 rating), Jeff Helbren snuck home with a 1 point win over Tim Wright.

In the M2 division (males rated 860 or less), we had a tie between Robert Beaven and Henry Huang after 27 holes. To break the tie, the pair had a sudden death playoff on hole 2, with Robert hitting metal first to secure the win. It should be noted that both Henry and Robert outscored the higher rated players in the M1 division, with Robert hitting 3 aces.

Our 2 new mums went head-to-head in the F1 division. Whitney Bourke took the win with an ace and a metal hit.
