Come & Try Disc Golf

Disc Golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the world!

On Australia Day, Sunday 26th January 2025, Sydney Disc Golf Club will be hosting a come-&-try disc golf event at Newington Armory in conjunction with the Sydney GeoQuest Block Party 2025.

From 10am, anybody is welcome to come and try this dynamic and fun sport for themselves. It’s suitable for all ages and is free to play on the day. Sessions will be run hourly (more often if demand is high) with a limit of 12 people per session. You don’t need to bring anything, just some comfortable footwear suitable for walking and sun protection. We’ll supply discs and a brief introduction session so you know what to do. Allow around 45 minutes to an hour to get the most out of the session and have fun.

What Is Disc Golf?

  • Disc golf is played much like traditional golf with players throwing a plastic flying disc (Frisbee) instead of hitting a ball.
  • Usually played on courses with 9 or 18 ‘holes’, the object of the game is to complete each hole in the fewest throws possible.
  • Players start from a ‘tee’ and throw their disc at a target which is usually a metal basket with chains to catch the disc.
  • The player takes their next shot from where their previous throw lands and continue throwing until they get their disc into the target.
  • The challenge of disc golf comes from shaping shots around obstacles like trees, over water and there are many ways to throw the disc.
  • Disc golf is designed to be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age and gender. We’ve seen players as young as 2 and ladies well into their 80’s.
  • Most courses are free to play and it is relatively inexpensive to get started (around $50 for a starter pack of 3 discs).
  • It’s a very social game, and just like traditional golf there are social events, tournaments and professional players.
  • With 5 permanent courses in Sydney, why not head out and give disc golf a try!
