May 2022 Social Day

A Sydney Disc Golf Club Social Event

What is with all the rain? After what seems like 5 months of continuous rain, the sun returned for a few days leading up to our May Social Day. Things were looking promising with the mowers hitting the course on Tuesday for the first time since February, but they only finished about 3 holes before the tractor lost a front tyre. And then the rain returned.

So conditions on Sunday were best described as ugly – knee deep grass in many places along with water, mud and slush. For many, half the round turned into a game of find the disc. The only good news was that the rain stayed away long enough for 15 hardcore disc golfers to finish 18 holes. We even had 3 newcomers who reportedly had a great time.

Players struggled to post good scores on the 18-hole red layout, with only 3 players breaking par. Jack Lemon finished with a strong -3 to finish third, with Clayton Beck two better at -5 and Priit Koiv unphased by the conditions finishing on top at -7.

Jack Lemon’s great round of -3 saw him take honours in the handicap competition by almost 4 shots over Priit Koiv and Jason Rees.

Following the round, a Disctroyer FD-8 Stork was up for grabs in the Nearest the Pin competition. Everybody headed to the hole 1 white tee to see who could get closest on the short but highly technical 55 metre par 3. In the end, Danny Su triumphed with a host just 2 metres short of the basket.
